ABOUT HEMOGLOBIN C TRAIT

INDIVIDUALS WITH HEMOGLOBIN C TRAIT ARE ASYMPTOMATIC.

  • A BLOOD SMEAR WILL SHOW NORMAL RED BLOOD CELLS AND TARGET CELLS.
  • THERE ARE NO SICKLED CELLS.

 HEMOGLOBIN C TRAIT BECOMES SIGNIFICANT WHEN ONE PARENT HAS SICKLE CELL TRAIT AND THE OTHER HAS C TRAIT.

  • WITH EACH PREGNANCY, THERE IS A  25% CHANCE THE CHILD WILL HAVE SICKLE CELL HEMOGLOBIN C DISEASE (SC).
  • THESE INDIVIDUALS MAY HAVE SOME OF THE SAME HEALTH PROBLEMS AS A PERSON WITH SICKLE CELL ANEMIA (SS).
